Formed in 1995, Faraualla is a female a cappella vocal ensemble from the beautiful Southern region "Puglia". They gained notoriety for their experimentalism, which blends vocal expressions of different ethnicities and historical periods. The meaning of the word "Faraualla" itself goes back to the Apulian tradition they wish to convey, being the name of the deepest karst cavities in the region. As they took part to numerous live radio broadcasts and performances in Italy, their fame increased worldwide as well. Particularly worth mentioning are their concert at the Berliner Philharmoniker (2013) and their year-long tour through the United States in collaboration with Iranian artist Mohsen Namjoo (2018-19).
They will be in South Africa right after the release of their latest record, Culla and Tempesta ("Cradle and Storm"), which manages to mix tracks in Italian, dialect, English and, once again as in previous works, in invented languages and sound syllables. Experimenting at this extent, they demonstrate their eagerness to play with sounds, where fascinating atmospheres, images, and feelings are collected, driven by the creative impulse to move through the expressive immediacy.
